A LifeBook as a Legacy Project

A Meaningful Way to Document and Celebrate a Life

Crafting a Legacy Project

Everyone leaves behind a legacy. Helping those nearing the end of their lives and their loved ones create a meaningful legacy can alleviate physical, psychological, and spiritual suffering. It can offer a sense of integrity and completion. Such a project can provide comfort to loved ones during grief, bereavement, and beyond.

Why Create a Legacy Project?

The concept of a legacy is often described as something that “lives on” after someone has passed. It is a gift passed down from one generation to the next, holding significant meaning for both the dying individual and those they leave behind.

A person at the end of life may start and finish the project on their own or involve others in the process. These projects can develop naturally or be guided by loved ones and/or an end-of-life doula or caregiver. Additionally, a legacy project can be initiated and completed posthumously, tailored to the needs of those involved.

Why Write My LifeBook as Your Legacy Project?

Legacy projects vary widely and are unique to each individual. A LifeBook serves as a deeply beneficial legacy project, providing a structured yet personal way to document and celebrate an individual’s life journey.

We make the legacy project process simple and rewarding by having a platform that asks insightful questions which only require a brief response (a few words). Then we expertly craft those words into a personal biography.

This process is specifically designed to facilitate the easy sharing of cherished memories and photos, all while relieving the individual, their families, or caretakers of the burden of writing and designing the biography (we do that part). The individual has the option to include longer passages of writing if they wish, but it is not necessary to create a beautiful LifeBook that represents their unique life journey.

Benefits of a Legacy Project

Exploration and Expression: A legacy project allows individuals to explore and express the meaning of their lives.

Comfort and Relief: The creative process can bring relief and comfort to those involved.

Connection and Bonding: Creating a legacy project can unite people in a loving and calming way during a time filled with intense emotions.

Focus and Control: Planning and working on a project can provide focus and a sense of control during a period when things may feel uncontrollable.

Tangible Remembrance: After the individual has passed, the legacy project becomes a touchstone, a physical reminder of the person and their essence, aiding loved ones in their grief and bereavement journey.

The Process of Creating a Legacy Project

The creation process itself can be deeply profound and impactful, potentially more so than the final product. If the individual works on the project alone, the time spent in creation and reflection can be healing. When a group collaborates on the project, the shared effort can enhance bonding and reduce stress. Loved ones find comfort not just in the completed project, but in the shared memories and love that emerge during its creation.

By compiling photographs, personal stories, significant milestones, and cherished memories, a LifeBook creates a tangible record that captures the essence of the person’s life. This project not only allows the individual to reflect on their experiences and achievements but also offers a meaningful way to communicate their values, lessons learned, and personal history to future generations. For loved ones, a LifeBook becomes a treasured keepsake that helps maintain a connection with the departed, offering comfort and continuity through the preserved memories and stories. The process of creating a LifeBook can also be therapeutic, fostering a sense of closure and peace for the individual while facilitating bonding and shared reflection among family members, caregivers and friends.

FAQs

How Do Referrals Work?

When a caregiver or organization makes a referral, our company reaches out to the family to provide detailed information about the service, answer any questions, and send an invoice. Once the family agrees to proceed, we set up their account. We then notify the referring organization that the account has been established, and work on the legacy project can begin!

What is the Caregiver’s Role?

The caregiver assists the client with logging into their account and navigating our very user-friendly platform. They help the client answer the questions that will form the basis of the legacy project, which can be done with just a few words per question. Additionally, the caregiver aids in uploading photos to the platform, ensuring a smooth and straightforward process for creating the client’s legacy book.

Who Writes, Designs and Prints the Legacy Books?

Legacy Books are written and printed directly by Write My LifeBook’s Legacy Project. Clients will receive a beautifully written and designed hardbound book containing all of the documented memories and photos.

What is the Cost of the Legacy Project and What is Included?

The cost of the project is $175. This includes access to our platform and a professionally designed, color, hardcover keepsake book. Additional books (at a discounted rate) or digital copies may also be purchased.

“Having my mom’s life story documented as her legacy project was a true gift to her and our family. She loved reminiscing about her younger years and the times spent raising her children. Walking through these memories together was incredibly special, and the book is something our family will always cherish. It has become a treasured keepsake for all of us.”
